Blogging - a way of defining yourself, even if you don't realise it.

The hardest part of blogging is writing your first blog post, having this idea in your head that this post will define the tone and context for the lifetime of your blog. For me, blogging gets increasingly more difficult the more you think about what to write and how to write it. For instance, how do I start and end a post? Shall I acknowledge my reader? Do I introduce myself? And, do I conclude in a question and close my post in a Gossip Girl signing off style?

I've blogged on and off since I was fifteen, with my most successful blog lasting a short 18-months with 400+ followers, but then life interferes, you get busy and you find yourself neglecting this online version of yourself that then it becomes forgotten. There are more than 200 million blogs available through many different platforms. In all honesty, I'm not sure how I intend to use this blog. I'm an active Tumblr user (click here) and wish my Tumblr to be a visual partner to this site - an extra little insight into my daily life through imagery. I think photography, art and fashion images can define a person and show their real personality; or indeed create the person they wish to portray themselves to be at least - a social media persona.

Anyway, I plan to write about anything and everything that is me. When I considered writing a blog, I thought to myself, what interests me, what are my passions? And its hard. No really, a lot harder than it sounds. Yeah I'm interested in things, but what am I really really passionate about? I think writing this blog will help me define myself, I regard my personality as somewhat materialistic, blunt and a bit uninteresting. But if I actually think about it, I surprise myself. I love renaissance art, cult books, rock n roll music, cooking, city travelling, and have a strange interest in government conspiracy theories.

I drink a lot of coffee.

Back to my original point, writing a blog is difficult, and strange at first, and I have a lot of respect for people that build their online collection of thoughts and self-definition for years. I hope to continue writing for a while - even if its just to get to know myself. Now, how do you conclude a blog post? Do you end with a question or statement?

Or...

XOXO

  2. You have a beautiful blog and I love how you write, and your desk space looks super inviting and comfortable for writing! I like to ask a question in the upper part of my blog and then end with a statement usually. For me it works, but you have to feel it out and let it come natural for you. Thanks so much for your comment on my blog today. :)
I am a new follower of yours now and look forward to seeing more!
